The Hieroglyphic Alphabet

Over 5000 years ago, ancient Egyptians devised the method of writing in hieroglyphs (meaning letters that look like pictures, and pronounced (hero-glifs). Because of the complexity of the Hieroglyphs, only the top echelon of society could read and write, and those in service of the king who were assigned the recording of history were called Scribes .

In representing English letters with Hieroglyphs, some variations exist among scholars.

Gold Silver Creations® adopts the one used by Egyptian craftsmen making jewelry.

The Cartouche

Names of Pharaohs (Ancient Egyptian Kings, pronounced faros) were written inside what is called Cartouche (pronounced car-toosh)”, an oval shape either engraved in stone or written on Papyrus (Papyrus is the ancient Egyptian equivalent of paper).
